I’ve been a huge fan of Morning Musume for a few years, which is an idol group along the lines of AKB48, kind of. But I’m a HUGE fan of this one member, Risa Niigaki. The members of Morning Musume graduate from the group at around 25, and she’s 22 now. That means that I have about two and a half years, hopefully, to save enough to get me and my best friend to Japan for her graduation concert.
I’m 13, but in two and a half years I’ll be 16 and my friend will be 18. I know it sounds crazy, but I definitely want to at least try to save enough money. If I don’t try, I’ll never even lay eyes on her and my chance will be gone and I’ll regret it. Yeah, I’m a loser, but I’m a loser with dreams. xD
So we’re going to try and get jobs at Target or Publix (I turn 14 next month) and sell oragami cranes and open an ArtFire shop and baby/pet/plant/housesit and a whole ton of other things to save money.
(And of course my mother approves of it and such. ^^)

Just had to get that out somewhere, and I thought why not in the forums of my Japanese textbook…? Any advice? Thoughts? Phone numbers of therapists because I might have gone insane? ^^”

Nah that’s a completely legit reason. In fact, I really hope you get to see Niigaki. Just make sure you save your money accordingly because you know those photobooks, singles, photos etc just keep on coming. Oh man, this completely warrants a mean idol joke from me but I won’t do it.

If I were you, not only should you start Japanese like every second, but you should also start making money ASAP. You never know if an early surprise graduation is going to come. This is basically my main reason for learning Japanese so its kind of heartening to see someone else to do the same. Just keep repeating this phrase to yourself as motivation:

アイドルは永遠じゃないんだから
アイドル　は　えいえん　じゃないんだから
Idols aren’t forever (Idols don’t last forever)

This is also my source of motivation. So I think if I can do it, you can do it too. Just stay motivated, and don’t forget your reasons because it’s easy to get lost and forget what’s important. I’ll definitely be willing to help you out.

I don’t mean to put you off, though – you should totally go for it :) I guess the job market in the UK must be much more dire for young people than in the States >.<
