i’m really into linguistics and i feel the aesthetics of words are intrinsically beautiful parts of language. i got into learning languages because it’s really nice to know more and i feel it’s really important to branch out and to experience other cultures. it’s also a really nice replacement for other more harmful choices that are better left not experienced.
i started to learn japanese because i’m really interested in… japan, in general, i suppose. the language is one of the most attractive, in my opinion (german sounds so angry! russian is kind of the same… kind of) and everyone seems to be super friendly and i really like the food. japanese is kind of the only language other than french of which i’m interested in learning.
i’m into arts, like literature and actual art, though i’m not good at painting or anything. i like making pysanky eggs and drawing the few things i can. i like to read (though sometimes i don’t have time!) and am currently reading Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace. i think poetry is one of the most beautiful forms of literature.
i don’t wear makeup because i believe people are more beautiful looking like humans. sometimes people take it the wrong way when i tell them that they’d look better without makeup, but it isn’t an insult at all. oh well. it also seems like it could instill bad self-esteem in especially the young, since people seem to be wearing it so young.
everyone seems really really nice here, and i hope to get to know you all well. i hope everyone continues to have fun learning japanese. happiness is such an important part of life, and is so nice to have in every experience. i wish you all the best in all your japan-related endeavors!

I took 2 years of German at School (it was compulsory) and I have to agree that it’s very angry sounding. My teacher was always so aggressive with her words.

I’m happy you have the confidence to show your face without makeup and feel that other people should do the same – it’s nice to know not everyone feels like they have to hide behind a mask. :)
I’m very different though – it’s literally impossible for me to leave the house without makeup. Ah, having low self confidence and being self conscious doesn’t really make me feel better. :p

Everyone around me seems to think so – but I actually like German very much (even if I hate my teacher) and I don’t think it sounds angry at all :p Funnily, my parents said they didn’t like Japanese because it “sounds like German” and because “it’s like they’re shouting all the time”.
