Hello all,

Nice to meet you.

My name is Derek Smith and I am very happy that I have finally signed up for TextFugu.

There are a few different reasons I want to learn Japanese.

1. I have always wanted to learn another language. (I know only 1, English)
2. I am intrigued by the Japanese language itself and its culture.
3. Last but not least, I am a huge gamer (since the Atari 2600) and would love to be able to play some of my favorite Japanese games in their native language, months before they come out in the US as well as play some games that never come out in the states.

I started trying to learn Japanese last fall by taking some classes and would consider myself a total beginner. I can read and write Hiragana and Katakana, but have yet to learn any Kanji.

I look forward to realizing my dream of learning Japanese with TextFugu’s help.
