I read through most of the free chapters, and realized that this would probably be a worthy addition to my tool box in my crusade to learn Japanese. I’ve recently found my self graduated from college and unable to find proper employment, and with a lot of extra time on my hands. I’ve decided to put that time to work, and am setting forth to realize a long time goal of mine: To learn Japanese.

Why Japanese? Well, I spent a summer in Japan in high school, and stayed with a family there for part of the time. Fell in love with the country and the culture, and that’s when the idea first wormed its way into my head. Then when I went to college in southern California, I ended up accidentally moving in to a neighborhood with a large Japanese community. I constantly found myself frustrated that there were so many interesting things to learn and experience around me, but I kept butting heads with the brick wall that is the language barrier. So now, with all my free time, I plan to learn Japanese so that I can better integrate my love of Japanese food and literature into my life, as well as better communicate with my Japanese friends.

I currently know Hiragana already, and am learning Katakana. Besides that, I don’t know much more than basic words/phrases. It’s nice to meet you everyone!

I personally think you’re really lucky to be surrounded by Japanese people – they can also help you improve speaking. There’s only one native Japanese person in my town and she’s my Japanese tutor.
