Hi everyone

My name is Mathias and I’m a 26yr old German native living in Switzerland.

I’ve subscribed today and wanted to introduce myself. I found TF a few months ago and started working through the free content but suddenly felt like I couldn’t manage this goal and stopped a few weeks back.

Last week I was responding to a friend who mentioned Japan and also this goal of mine. This is when I felt the tingle to get this thing started again and do it the right way although I didn’t start right away.

A few days later I was searching on the interwebs for a nice Japan related wallpaper (I love having this reminder every time I start and stop the computer) and found a photo of Sapporo during the winter. It wasn’t anything special and in all objectivity rather boring but I just felt as if I should be there, almost longing to be there. I can’t really describe it without sounding stupid :P
Anyhow, this is what got me started again.

I also want to post my reasons why I’m learning Japanese, so here they are:

- I want to visit Japan AND want to be able to talk to the locals

- I want to understand my favourite music (Mucc and many more), read one of my favourite author’s books (Haruki Murakami) and understand my favourite movies and animes (too many to list :P) without relying on a translation.

- At some point in my life I want to live in Japan. This might change in the future and probably also depends on how my visit there goes, but I’ll do my best to have the opportunity to achieve this.

It seems that this is a rather long introduction compared to some others and I hope I’m not scaring you all away :P

If you like to follow my progress you can do that at http://japanesechocolate.wordpress.com/ .. feel free to leave a comment or two :) I will probably update the blog soon since the old entries are not that accurate anymore.

Thanks for reading and have a nice day everyone :D

btw. is that really the correct term? TextFugu-ers?

Hey Mathias! I don’t know if we’ve settled on an official term yet, but TextFugu-ers works as good as any :)

(Also acceptable: “TextFugu-ites” and just plain “Fugus.”)

Anyway, welcome to TextFugu and good luck learning Japanese!

Or delicious Fugu served on a plate. :) (I’m joking. <3)

Welcome to TextFugu, Mathias!

I like the way you laid out your introduction and worded your reasons. Always stop by if you need help with anything!

Good luck learning Japanese.

Thanks for the welcome. Fugus sounds a lot better than Fuguers I think .. although the akronym DFSOAP is quite cool too :P
