How quickly should I finish Season One?

I took Japanese for about a month and then quit about a year back. I knew almost all of season one but I didn’t want to rush through it. So I slowed myself down and went on at a lesson a week or so, but it seems boring this way; I don’t feel like I’m learning anything, and I want to learn new things.

The only problem with going fast is not being able to memorize the onyomi and the kunyomi of kanji. There is also the “problem” of going to fast on the later seasons, and going too fast for the seasons to catch up on.

So how quickly should I finish the seasons, and what other resources do you recommend other than Textfugu? I already have Anki, and I’m thinking of doing the Core Xk when I’m finished with the seasons.

every season is a bit more challenging or has more information to learn. so i think as you go up in seasons you need to spend more time on them. season one i finished in 3 weeks. but you can take more time if need be or even less, though i don’t recommend less than that. then for the other seasons spend more time but i believe it should take about a month for each season.

This probably doesn’t sound very helpful but… you should just go at the speed you want. Feel like you’re going too slow? Speed up. Too fast? Slow down. If you find there is something you aren’t quite getting or you have forgotten, you can always go back to it, it’s not gonna go away and leave you.

As for CoreXK, just wait until you’ve finished all the Seasons – there is plenty of vocab to be learned in TextFugu already (especially these “Ultimate Vocab” lists I’m working through right now) and I think doing both at the same time would be too much, but that’s just me.

Look, in my opinion – go at a pace that feels comfortable.
Don’t rush yourself but don’t slack off either.
Everybody works at different speeds, there’s no need to feel pressured.
