I feel really dumb now. I was wondering why the kanji decks only have on’yomi readings in them, then I seem to have noticed that the kun’yomi for a kanji is the same as the word in kana form, is that definitely the case?

I think I explained it wrong, what I mean is, the kanji for play/playing is 遊 and the word would be あそび, am I right in thinking that means the kun’yom is あそび?

I was stressing a bit before with kanji, thinking on’yomi and kun’yomi were both different from how you would say the word or write it in kana, if I’m right about this then it’s going to be a nice surprise, even if I do feel a bit dumb only noticing this now…

Well with kanji like 欠 the kunyomi is only “ka” since the word lack is spelled this: 欠ける
It is the sound the kanji makes that is the kunyomi not the entire word.

For quite a lot of kanji the kun’yomi reading is the same as the word spelt out in kana, it seems like there’s some exceptions, but I’m seeing this often when looking up words now.
