Hi guys,
I started on TextFugu at the beginning of this year. I’ve been on a little break because life has been a bit crazy. Now that things are settling down I want to get back to business and start studying again. However, one reason I stopped before was because I ended up making reverse decks of all the decks that are provided that way I could practice Japanese to English and English to Japanese. But after a while the decks started piling on quickly, basically twice as fast as they would have normally since I was making double of every deck.
I found this method to be very beneficial to memorization, but it was taking forever to get through anything. Shortly I started feeling overwhelmed and gave up for a little bit.Now that I have given sufficient background information (I know I probably make things too wordy…apologies!) I was wondering if I should even worry about making reverse decks on everything or do y’all think the memorization will come just using the decks as they are provided through TextFugu?
June 10, 2014 at 3:44 pm #45404I just reversed my decks as well, and boy-oh-boy was I taken aback at two things:
1) Damn. I just doubled my workload.
2) Double-damn. I don’t know the answer to half these cards–so, really, I’ve pretty much tripled my workload.
But here’s the thing–if I don’t know these words backwards and forwards, then what’s the point in doing any of this work at all if it’s half assed? Once I get the words perfect in my mind the reviews will get easier. Sure, eventually you’ll probably learn it all if you memorize in just one direction, but that’s going to take a while, I think, probably longer than just working on the reverse decks as well.

Do you do all of them whether thats only 20 or 200, or do you have a set limit to how many you do. One issue I was having with the incorporation of the reverse decks was that I would have 200+ cards to go through and after going through all of them I did not have the energy to learn anything else from TextFugu. Any suggestions on how to better utilize my study time?
