Hi, my name is Jess and I live in the USA in New York State, central New York to be exact (not New York City, I’m pretty far away from there). I have a couple different reasons for learning Japanese. I’d like to work as an interpreter or translator of some kind, or maybe teach English, but I haven’t decided yet. I also have a keen interest in Japanese food. I’ve experimented with a couple recipes, found I have a lot to learn, and am looking forward to the experience… and delicious food.
I’ve had a small obsession with Japan since I was little via anime and manga, both of which I’ve out grown, but my love for Japan remains. I might be wasting my time learning Japanese since I don’t have one particular goal in mind. However, I’m really enjoying myself so far (I’m almost done with season 2) and as long as I continue to enjoy being here I will stay and learn. :-)

Anyway, learning something new is never a waste of time. =)
Also, “outgrown” anime and manga? How? Why? They try very hard over there to ensure that never happens. It’s not just for kids, you know.
May 26, 2014 at 6:24 am #45257When I was in high school I was super into anime and manga, I even joined the anime and manga club. Over the past couple years though I’ve just lost interest. I used to own over one hundred manga, but I gave them all away this year. I didn’t feel like reading them and didn’t even want to look at them anymore. Maybe I over did it in my younger years and my brain is just burnt out. That’s not to say I refuse to watch it. If a friend wants to watch anime I’ll watch it with them. Just on my own I really have no interest.
Thanks for the words of encouragement! xD And yes, I agree, red pandas are awesome.
May 28, 2014 at 10:04 am #45274Hi Jess, nice to meet you! I’ve never been into anime per se- I never went to anime clubs and haven’t seen most of the mainstream series- but there’s some philosophical anime that I love (eg Serial Experiments Lain). I like philosophical US film as well, but it’s seemingly more rare.
I have a love/hate relationship with Japanese food because I don’t like fish, and fish is an important part of Japanese food, it seems. I keep hoping that someday I’ll acquire the taste, but I’m still waiting :T
Not from the desk of Eihiko. Eihiko's boss took his desk away from him.May 29, 2014 at 11:15 am #45291こんにちは私はトビです! I’m on the verge of completing Season 4. I believe this is my first post in the TextFugu forums. よろしくお願いします!
