Hi! Just got here. I was curious how many people have been studying Japanese with textfugu. There probably is a way to check that on my own somehow but I thought I’d save myself some effort and in the same time pop me cherry in this forum. It’s like hitting 80% of the birds with 20% of the stones. Talk about productive.
January 3, 2012 at 9:32 am #23415I think only Koichi would hold the answer to that one…
January 3, 2012 at 10:45 am #23427At least 252: so many people introduced themselves…
For the pareto principle, thats what this 80:20 thing is called, is it a good guess. My guess is, that about 50 – 70% of all people introduce themselves.Pareto does work for learning and stuff, but it’s definitely no longer accurate in financial aspects. There the 99% is definitely very close to reality!
I’m curios about how many people are studying Japanese at textfugu at the moment. And also, what season they are studying at.
January 3, 2012 at 11:03 am #23430As far as I can tell, close to 2,000 people have Forever accounts. Monthly members fluctuate, and a fair amount eventually become Forever members anyway.
I don’t know if there’s any way to tell how many people are actively using TextFugu at any given moment, but that would be an interesting statistic.
January 3, 2012 at 11:15 am #234342000! O_O
Wow! My rough estimate was around 500 members, forever and monthly combined. This place is far more popular than I ever imagined (^-^)b
As for the active members count, maybe you could count the number of page views per month for certain pages; e.g. in the beginning, middle and the end of each season. It would be interesting indeed to know those numbers.
January 3, 2012 at 12:21 pm #23445Wow, 2000, that’s quiet some people!
Well, I forgot, the red box at the forum says, that this forum is “new”, thus my guess just covered this “new” forum period.
January 3, 2012 at 12:28 pm #23447I’ve been using Textfugu along with a few other resources (e.g. Human Japanese for the Iphone) for a couple months now….I still only in season 1 because I’m super slow and want to master Hiragana and Katakana as early as possible. Not sure if that’s the best way to go about it short-term, but I’m happy since my goals are more long-term anyway.
I’d be curious to know what season other people are in as well ;)
January 4, 2012 at 8:27 am #23540My guess was minimum 1000, 10 000 at most. And that was a conservative estimate, considering the popularity of Koichi webwide and particularly in youtube. Then again, maybe I’m using old data. Anyways, thank y’all!
