Looks like I’m screwed anyway, because none of my Anki decks will open. Yep, I keep backups on another harddrive, tried reinstalling Anki, even fixing the files with a program from the Anki website – nope.
And that’s why I wanted a phone with Android – so I could review on there in case my computer gets busted >_>
November 21, 2011 at 9:03 am #21064protip: keep decks inside dropbox <3
November 21, 2011 at 9:15 am #21065^I shall remember that. But I don’t get why the backupped decks aren’t working. Or completely new ones I download, for that matter.
November 22, 2011 at 12:27 pm #21153If it is just Windows that is giving you grief and not a problem with your computers hardware you could put a bootable version of Linux on a pen drive and use Anki from there, it won’t help you get your decks back but at least your computer would be usable. Although…if you are going to do that you might as well just reinstall Windows entirely, you could use Linux to rescue any files off your computer, then wipe everything and re-install Windows.
November 23, 2011 at 12:04 am #21216I had the same problem…until I just added Japanese to my university curriculum lol. So I ended up spending my day…getting tired doing the things I loved. But yeah, if you don’t have that option then there really is no point half assing it as missing said, so hopefully you come back to it at some point.

November 23, 2011 at 9:16 am #21218@Yggbert: a good suggestion, but I think it’s the HDD itself that’s busted, or at least I keep getting disk read errors. I keep backups of most of my files on an external HDD, so that’s not a problem. And CHKDSK fixed my Anki, which I’m glad about.
Well, I’m resuming my reviews today. I think it’ll take about 3 hours to get through all reviews xD
November 23, 2011 at 9:47 pm #21257You must be committed to the language. At times I feel like I don’t have the energy to study on TextFugu. When I do, I look at myself in the future. Looking at me, disappointing, and walking into a never ending path. I don’t want that to happen. The reason why I want to learn this language is to communicate with others, and to understand a different culture. It’s not that you don’t have the energy (believe me I know how you feel) It’s because you don’t know why you are doing it. Until you figure a great reason why you use TextFugu, then you will have enough energy to do so.
Also don’t worry about anki, just delete every flashcard set and start from where you are at (unless your chapter doesn’t have anki).
