Hello,
this is going to be a short post, but does anyone know where to get an English/Japanese keyboard? I was just wondering I am only a beginner but if I plan to type things in Japanese I really don’t want to rely on an IME.-

March 25, 2013 at 10:06 pm #39251eBay or Amazon Japan (bluetooth or 2.4Ghz) would be a good starting place.
But, be forwarded of potential issue(s) with Windows.
I’m tempted to to buy one of those keyboards…but it may not actually be that much more efficient (past the learning curve). For example, by the looks of it, it’s two strokes to type any letter that uses han/dakuten which is the same for typing the letter using romaji. Also, notice the letters up there with the number keys which adds an interesting dynamic.
Anyone have any experience using a jp keyboard on an English system? Is it an overall plus?

March 29, 2013 at 3:47 pm #39310What about the old smartphone – possible (feasible) to get IME for them?
March 29, 2013 at 5:35 pm #39313Dunno if you’re using “old” literally or colloquially, but I’ve got a nine-key kana keyboard on my iPhone. It’s in the international keyboard options somewhere.
Just using regular old romaji keyboard on the iPad – it’s got a bigger screen, after all.
March 29, 2013 at 10:31 pm #39317I was meaning it colloquially. I’ve a HTC something or other, but never searched out IME for it.
March 29, 2013 at 11:11 pm #39320No idea what HTC is, or how it’s set up, but on iDevices, the international keyboards can be installed in Settings -> General -> International. Perhaps there’s something similar on your phone.

March 30, 2013 at 5:59 pm #39331If it’s HTC it is likely Android, which if that is the case you can easily find an IME in the Google Play market. Either GO Keyboard or the Google Japanese Keyboard are both fairly good options for that.
