Minnasan konnichiwa!
2nd year high school student with a passion for Japan(although where I live, this year I’m finishing high school.) I did take a class in Japanese early last year but found that I wasn’t advancing as much as I’d liked and stopped learning the language for a while. After watching more anime, reading more manga and just generally immersing myself in Japanese history, in the past few months I discovered I was still very much in love with the language so I’m excited to ‘re-continue’ my journey here. I’m a self-motivated person who often keeps to herself but I’m looking to expand my knowledge of Japanese and just be part of this community.
Does anyone use any books in conjunction with textfugu?
Is ‘Japanese for busy people’ a good one to try?cheers!!

January 11, 2017 at 2:57 pm #49983Welcome!
I studied Japanese for Busy People myself, along with TextFugu (and also Nakama, which we were using for my university classes). It’s not bad, though it’s geared a little towards workplace-related situations.
January 14, 2017 at 2:16 am #49993Thank you!
So my local library offers Japanese for busy people volume 2 – Do you think it’s worth starting from there or should I buy the first one? I’ve already studied hiragana, katakana and know some kanji. I can make basic conversation and know the grammar rules. I’m still thinking of studying it since it seemed like a good choice…

January 14, 2017 at 2:49 am #49996Honestly, I couldn’t really say without knowing where you’re up to. Volume 1 (the kana version, not the romaji version) assumes you already know hiragana and katakana, though it doesn’t teach any kanji.
February 3, 2017 at 9:48 am #50041How are you liking Textfugu so far? I started somewhat recently too (maybe 4 months ago?) I enjoy it immensely, but looking forward to transitioning to EtoEto soon. In addition to using Textfugu, I’ve been using WaniKani (highly-recommended) and I’ve been using Genki for over a year. I think its nice to have this online starter course as a recap of what I learned since self-teaching was for the longest time an off and on progress for me. Also Welcome! :3
