Thanks for your answer Hattori, I created cards for the vocabulary. I knew, I’ll have a hard time to recall the Japanese words…
Well, the sentences I usually “decode” as suggested in the Birkenbihl method. That means, I have two sets of sentences in my (other) sentence decks. One set contains the nice Japanese sentence in Kana and if available in Kanji and the nice sentence in my language. The second set contains the “butchered” Japanese sentence as well as the word to word translation into my language (in the Japanese sentence structure). If available I add sound. That was a good practice to learn how to cut soundfiles quickly into pieces and number them.
At the moment, the decks show both sentences the nice Japanese ones and the butchered one or the nice in my language as well as the word for word translated Japanese word order. When I’m getting better, I might just turn off the word for word my language part or just show Kanji without Kana whatever helps me to improve.
I don’t worry (yet) about sticking too much to one way of word order. My language is quite flexible about this aspect too ;-)Doing this, is a good practice for me to write Japanese and hopefully learn those words. In a context, I kind of need less effort to remember words.
Actually, I have two decks containing sentences. One for the conversations of my physical Japanese book and one with てんきよほう sentences from coscom.co.jp. Whole sentences with sound give me too some reading practice :-)I’m also kind of experimenting, which way does suit me to remeber easyer or harder all those new things.
My way of learning definitely will change as I progress studying Japanese ;-)Sorry, if I wrote not clearly enough.

Well, I just checked out Vocab and Sentences once more. This time I imported everything from scratch, originally I opened the anki file. But the result is the same.
Those one-way decks only have one card layout called Recognition (current), that’s it.
Radicals has two card layouts and Kanji even has three card layouts.Latetly, I’ve decided only to correct postings from people who also write corrections. Preferably, the correction/wrting ratio is kind of matching. There are quite some people around having many written entries but never or hardly ever corrected anything.

I once had a similar concern to the one you’re describing. I decided to make the best out of the words people choose themselves. They probably learnt something they try to phrase now. I usually use blue to correct, I don’t like red that much ;-) Depending on the level people are writing, I also write the sentence down, as I would write it, and why I would write it this way. Thus, they have a choice and might learn something. Lerners writing in my native language, for them it wouldn’t be normal not to make mistakes ;-)
Learning foreing languages or correcting other peoples sentences makes me understand my language better, I found out!@Kaona
Write one or two sentences at the time, maybe once every two weeks. The first sentences, I wrote were just a complete mess. Actually, my English translation was the problem not the Japanese, I’m not proud of it at all. I won’t make the same stupid mistake again. But I’m sure, I make others. I think, that’s the important thing about learning.
You didn’t get any weird (unwanted) mails at lang-8 so far? I’m just asking, because you publish your age in numbers rather than kind of disguising it in words.I was wondering about the same issue as カロッタ does. I’m working at Season 2 now.

Maybe I just should go for it!
Oh, well, there is lot’s of work ahead of me. I mean, not just work work, the harder part is probably to adjust the way of thinking, all those different concepts of what is important in a language and what doesn’t matter.

Well, I better get used to the idea, that words like ありません are more multifunctional, than I ever dreamt of (at the moment at least).
I’m sure there are rules for pronunciation, probably quite a bunch of them to make Japanese sound nicely in every sentence.
About the pronunciation せんぱい and かんぱい I was reading yesterday. Also about the げいしゃ and せんせい. There, I used to pronounce the “ei” no as ee. Maybe I’ve even found out, how to get the Japanese r-sound ;-)
Well, could you have a look in your deck at ->Deck Properties and add up all the facts? The facts are shown at the download part of Anki. If you haven’t added many new facts, I’ll find it this way.

My Heisig deck is also of the type RTK 1+3 (3007 facts). In the layout I add the kanjidamage link as soon as I update the Kanji to study. I didn’t find an easier way until now. The layout contains one link, which takes the Kanji out of the anki file. I just replaced the Kanji-part by using {{text:kanji}}.
Hattori, which huge Katakana Deck are you using? I was looking for it but couldn’t find a deck of this name. Sounds interesting to me, since Katakana isn’t used as often.
The Extended Kana deck I’m using contains only 143 facts and has 470 cards.Good studies

Well, to have to learn French was annoying. At least it was helpful for English and Spanish.
At the moment, I’m trying to study Japanese words, but they are so not connectable to something I’d knew of, thus I’m having quite a hard time. So I’m experimenting with Anki to find a way, to remember those words (more easily).
Maybe I’ll find here some more ideas, I couldn’t think of.@sunnie1
Well, at first it looked like Greek to me ;-)
Since most Kanjis aren’t self-explaining, which means, I have to learn first, how to make them kind of self-explaining, there is the same problem, as described above :-I.
At the moment, I’m doing this eye focussing exercises. Some sheets have letters or numbers on them. SInce Kanjis are kind of compact, I just combined both, learning Kanjis and doing exercises at the same time. I arranged some sheets, like Kanjis, the Kanas I never can remember and one has even Yotsubato pictures on it :)
At the end of January, when my tandem partner will be back from Japan, I’ll geht my first volume of Yotsubato in Japanese. I’m planning to translate it :)I’m glad I’ve joined…

For the pareto principle, thats what this 80:20 thing is called, is it a good guess. My guess is, that about 50 – 70% of all people introduce themselves.Pareto does work for learning and stuff, but it’s definitely no longer accurate in financial aspects. There the 99% is definitely very close to reality!
I’m curios about how many people are studying Japanese at textfugu at the moment. And also, what season they are studying at.
