The springs are covered in ice. This has made them very weak.
What else would ice do to springs? I’m pretty sure getting ice in springs is a bad idea for any machine. Those springs need to move, and moving frozen things breaks said frozen things. These springs are so weak.

Do you know anyone named Jack? At the very least, a famous person named Jack? Jack Nicholson, perhaps? Think of that Jack (which is already in your head) as an extremely weak version of that Jack. It’s so sad how weak Jack is now.
