Energy, Spirit

on’yomi kun’yomi Radicals
n/i +

Meaning: Energy, Spirit

You’re looking for a treasure, but no normal treasure… a treasure that’s a stash of energy. Not gold, money, or anything like that. Imagine yourself finding it, and opening up a treasure chest. Out bursts a spirit ball of energy like you’ve never seen.

Try to touch the energy spirit, it’s pretty amazing. Is it solid? Does it shock you? What does it feel like? Be sure to imagine it out.

Reading: き

As you reach inside the energy spirit, you feel something hard inside. It’s a large key (き) that gives you access to another treasure.

You take the key and open another treasure that’s nearby. Open it up and see what’s inside. Imagine something spectacular.

Vocabulary

This vocab comes up a lot – be sure to pay attention to it! More words coming in the near future… like… a lot of words, and I’m not even counting all the words you’re learning now, which is also a lot. Learn the meanings most importantly, then learn what readings you can.

a 気(き)= Spirit, Energy

  • Meaning: Same as the kanji
  • Reading: The on’yomi reading, strangely enough… kun’yomi reading is basically useless for 気, at least when you start comparing.

a 気に入る(きにいる)= Like, Be Pleased With

  • Combo: 気 (energy) に入る (insert)
  • Meaning: If you enter energy into something, you must like it.
  • Reading: The on’yomi reading of 気, but the kun’yomi reading of everything else (you can tell because of the hiragana sticking out).

a 気分(きぶん)= Feeling, Mood

  • Combo: 気 (energy) + 分 (part)
  • Meaning: Part of the energy of a place / person is their feelings / mood.
  • Reading: On’yomi readings, all around!
