Rice Paddy

on’yomi kun’yomi Radicals

Meaning: Rice Paddy

The rice paddy radical and the rice paddy kanji are the same, making this one super easy to remember, at least meaning-wise.

Just know your radicals, and you will know your kanji as well.

Reading: た

To remember the reading た, we use the word “taco.” – You’re in the rice field… but when you lean down to examine the rice more closely, you see that it’s not rice that’s growing, it’s a bunch of little tacos, blossoming out of the ground.

Smell the tacos. Touch the tacos. Taste the tacos. This is definitely a very strange rice field.

Vocabulary

a 田(た)= Rice Field

  • Meaning: The meaning of this vocab is the same as the kanji.
  • Reading: The reading of the vocab is the kun’yomi reading (as it often is when a word is alone like this, made up of one kanji). To remember this reading, think of Tiger (The “ta” sound in Tiger) Woods playing golf on this rice field. It’s hard to play golf on a rice field, but he pulls it off well.
