Meaning: King
The king kanji and the king radical are the same!
Hopefully you’re a king of radicals… because if you are, this kanji meaning was super easy for you!
Reading: おう
Oh (おう) Great KING… Please don’t kill me… Oh Great KING.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a really good way to learn this one using mnemonics, just because the “oh” sound is so common. If you can get used to thinking “Oh King” as something natural when it comes to thinking of the word “king” you should be alright. I’m not saying it’ll be totally easy, but try and think “king” then think “oh king” then “king” then “oh king” a few times (or more) and it should create a connection strong enough to help you remember the on’yomi. If that doesn’t work, there’s always common vocab – and luckily there’s no kun’yomi to confuse you.
