Books Counter

Meaning: Books Counter
The books radical and the books counter are almost the same thing. Just look at this radical, though. There’s multiple books in there, so if you just count them, you have yourself a book counter kanji.
Go ahead and count the books that are present within the kanji… one… two… three… I guess just three.
Reading: さつ
You may think you saw three books, but really you saw two (さつ) books in there. You’re just seeing double, and it looks like there’s more books than there are.
Try to cross your eyes while looking at this kanji so that there’s only two books, then tell yourself you only saw two books in the book counter kanji.
Vocabulary
No good kun’yomi for this one, only on’yomi and vocab, which is the best kind of reading anyways.
〜冊(〜さつ)= Counter For Books
- Meaning: Same as the kanji. Put this onto a number and you have yourself something that counts books. 一冊(いっさつ)= 1 book, 二冊(にさつ)= 2 books, etc.
- Reading: The reading is the on’yomi reading. The numbers are the hard part, since there’s so many number exceptions when you combine them with other things, but for now, just worry about this kanji. We’ll cover numbers and counters later.
