Meaning: Past
A pile of graves has a whole lot of past associated with it, and not much future.
Look at all the years and tombstones… all of it is from so long ago. All of it is from the past.
Reading: きょ
きょ and こ sound pretty similar, so we’ll use one mnemonic to learn one of them, which is close to learning two of them. Also, remember we use the name/person こういち to remember こ sounds. – You come to one grave in particular. You have to read it closely… It says “Here lies こういち, the hoopiest frood there was.”
Come up with some kind of emotion along with this grave. You didn’t know I was dead… so are you happy? Sad? Imagine the emotion and think of the past.
Vocabulary
For right now, there’s no vocab to learn that has to do with this kanji. But there will be soon… in the future. Or is it the past? You tell me Stephen Hawking, you tell me.
