| n/i | こえ | 士 + 巴 |
Meaning: Voice
You have a samurai and a bed. But, you can’t see the samurai. You hear him, though. All you can hear is his VOICE calling out from inside.
Somehow the Samurai got himself caught inside the bed, and he can’t get out. He’s really embarrassed about this, so his voice is kind of soft and sad sounding.
Reading: こえ
The on’yomi isn’t important, so let’s learn the kun’yomi.
Once you get the samurai out of bed, he starts getting all sexy with you (to thank you for saving him, obviously). He starts playing coy (こえ) when you return the vibe.
Vocabulary
Learn these words before moving on – you should have everything you need to know to learn them all fairly easily!
a 声(こえ)= Voice
- Meaning: Same as the kanji.
- Reading: Same as the reading you learned.
a 大声(おおごえ)= Loud Voice
- Combo: 大 (big) + 声 (voice)
- Meaning: When you have a big voice, you have a loud voice
- Reading: The kun’yomi readings of both kanji. This is one of those readings that don’t make a terrible lot of sense, so you’ll have to remember this exception (double kun’yomi).
a 叫び声(さけびごえ)= A Shout
- Combo: 叫 (yell) + 声 (voice)
- Meaning: When your voice is a yell, you’re doing a shout
- Reading: The kun’yomi readings, all around. The hiragana sticking out of the kanji is a hint to this.
