Meaning: Obtain
Four stools. That’s what you need. Your friends and you have a table, but no stools. The only thing you need right now is to obtain four stools and get them back to your table.
Focus in and obsess over the action of obtaining stools. That’s what’s most important here. You must get these stools. Even if you don’t remember the word “obtain” and remember the feeling, you’ll probably be able to figure out the meaning of the kanji anyways, that’s why emotions are often so important with things like this!
Reading: しゅう
Whenever we need to remember しゅ or しゅう, we use the word “shoe” to remember it. You finally find a way to obtain the stools you need. But, they’re taken by others. They agree that if you trade your awesome shoes (しゅう) with them, they’ll give you their stools.
You really don’t want to trade your shoes though, so be sure to feel the emotions associated with “DO NOT WANT” and really resent them when you finally actually do trade your awesome, awesome shoes for four lousy bar stools. Your friends are happy, though you’re kinda pissed because now you don’t have shoes.
Vocabulary
I think the kanji that make up these words are pretty interesting – make sure you take a look before moving on (as you should with all kanji, anyways)!
a 収める(おさめる)= to Obtain, to Collect
- Meaning: The meaning is the same as the kanji, except in verb form. For this word, you are doing the action of obtaining or collecting something.
- Reading: You’ll probably want to learn this reading in your study decks – it’s just one of those readings.
a 収まる(おさまる)= to be Settled, Collected
- Meaning: The meaning of this word is a bit strange when you compare it to the kanji. At least “collected” is kind of the same as the previous vocab.
- Reading: Like the last one, rely on your study deck for learning this reading.
a 収支(しゅうし)= Income and Expenditure
- Combo: 収 (obtain) + 支 (branch)
