Practice

Developing A Sense Of Identity

Really, this whole chapter was practice for the particle は, but you did learn a lot of new things. You learned some new words, you applied some of those new words to the AはB pattern, and you probably got a bit more comfortable with the whole idea of Japanese grammar (at least a teensy bit, I hope!).

We’re going to look at some sentences – not too many – to nail the lid on the coffin, so to speak. Then, you’re going to study radicals.

Sentences

Go through the sentences and make sure you can read them all. Then, make sure you can say them just like the pretty audio.

a わたし は こういち です

a ひろゆきさん は いしゃ ですか

a はい、ひろゆきさん は いしゃ です

a ひろゆきさん は せんせい ですか

a いいえ、ひろゆきさん は せんせい じゃありません。

a わたし は いしゃ です!

a ひとみさん は 一人 です。

a しごと は いしゃ です。

a こういちさん は さっか です

When you’re able to do all these (I imagine you’ll know the meanings to a lot of them too, just by reading them because of your previous studies), download the Sentences 7 deck and import it into your “TextFugu Sentences” deck to study (and then, study it!).

Sentences 7

Sentences 7 is pretty short, so use this opportunity to catch up if you’ve fallen behind. When it comes to the long-term thinking portion of your Japanese, sentences I think will give you the most love. Maybe not right now… but a few months down the line, when you have hundreds (maybe thousands) of these sentences under your Anki belt, you’ll start noticing that Japanese as a whole comes way easier to you. Keep it up and you’ll get rewards soon!

Radicals 3

Radicals 3 are the radicals you need to know in order to learn the 3-stroke Kanji. They aren’t all the 3-stroke radicals, just the ones you need right now. How’s that for efficiency? Head on over to the Radicals Page and learn the radicals in the #3 section. When you’re done with that, download and import the Anki deck for the Level 3 radicals.

Radicals 3

When you’re done, come back here to move on to the next lesson! Well done!
