Finishing Up 1-2 Stroke Kanji

“Be like the fountain that overflows, not like the cistern that merely contains.” – Paulo Coelho

The last thing you should do before moving on to the next chapter is to learn the last of the 1-2 stroke kanji. There are a mere five left, and I think this is a good time to go through them and review.

The last 5 kanji are:

Kanji Meaning 音 (on) 訓 (kun)
ten じゅう とお, と
sword とう かたな
street ちょう n/a
finish りょう n/a
again n/a また

Go through the above five kanji narratives (once again, I suggest you open them in tabs) and read through them all, remembering everything you possibly can (without any brain-dead memorization).

After you’ve gone through these five kanji, come on back here. Now it’s time to test your knowledge and how much you were able to retain just by reading through. Two Anki decks to download. First, the regular kanji deck. You’ll want to import this into your “TextFugu Kanji” Deck.

Kanji 2.2

Then, there’s the TextFugu Kanji Vocab deck. You’ll want to import this into your “TextFugu Vocab” deck.

Kanji Vocab 2.2

After you’ve imported these both, I’d start with the regular “TextFugu Kanji” deck and go through your reviews and new cards (assuming you’re caught up here). Then, after that study your “TextFugu Vocab” deck. You might need to force a review (since you studied earlier), so if you do go ahead and do that. When you’ve gone through a round, it’s time to move on to the practice page.

Well done on this chapter! You’re starting to move on to longer, more complicated sentences. The next few chapters are very, very useful. Probably some of the most useful chapters up to this point. We just had to build your Japanese foundation up a bit to get there so it’ll be nice and easy to learn! Speaking of foundations, let’s practice!
