The Necessary Kanji

“It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.” - Ursula K. Le Guin

At this point, you should have finished going through the 3-stroke radicals, and be ready to start the 3-stroke kanji. I think the first five 3-stroke kanji will be pretty easy for you, but definitely take your time. It’s best to learn them well rather than rush through them. When you’re ready, go through these five kanji on the 3-stroke kanji page.

Kanji Meaning 音 (on) 訓 (kun)
three さん み, み.つ
above じょう あが, うえ, のぼ
below か, げ した, さが, くだ
thousand せん n/i
mouth こう くち

You can study them via the link below or just click on (Three) above to get started.

When you’ve read through them all, download the following decks and import them.

This first one gets added to your “TextFugu Kanji” deck.

Kanji 3.1

And this one gets added to your TextFugu Vocab Deck.

Go through as much as Anki will allow you, and then move on to the practice page. After the practice page is the next chapter, which uses a lot of what you’ve learned up until now, plus teaches you a lot of new things… like how to count to 100,000,000,000 (yep, that’s a ridiculously high number). Don’t worry, it’s not going to take you long to get all the way up there (and you don’t have to be much of a math wiz, either!).
