Negative Verbs (ません)
“If you’re not making mistakes, then you’re not doing anything. I’m positive that a doer makes mistakes. ” - John Wooden
ません form basically just takes a verb and makes it negative. As in, not doing something. For example, if we take a look at the verb “to hurry…”
a いそぎます → To Hurry
a いそぎました → Hurried
a いそぎません → To Not Hurry
If you’ve been following along, I’m guessing you’ve figured out the pattern (or, at least remember it). As long as you remember the verb vocab itself, it’s easy to change it from present/future to past to negative. Past-negative, as well, is very easy, but that’s a couple pages from now.
Let’s take a look at some examples:
a わたし は しにません!
I will not die! / As for me, I will not die!
a それ は しりません
I do not know that / As for me, I do not know that
It’s just as easy as the previous two. Let’s take a look at the three verb conjugations we know now and practice them a bit.
