You’ve learned casual verbs (present/future tense). You’ve also learned some grammar points that use that type of verb (はず and ため). Now we’re going to expand out a little bit more and learn past tense casual verbs. Sure, this allows you to do past tense in casual form (good), but it also opens up a ton of opportunity for new grammar that relies on this past tense casual verb form (awesome). In this chapter, you’re going to learn how to do past tense casual verbs, apply that to some previous grammar points you’ve learned, and then over the next few chapters you’ll learn grammar that uses them (so you keep getting more and more practice with this while still learning something new).

First step is to learn what this is called (because I don’t want to have to keep typing “past tense casual verbs”).
