Irregular Verbs (た-Form)

“Clarity precedes success.” - Robin Sharma

Irregular Verbs (or Exception Verbs) require you to just remember / memorize what they change to. Normally we have two irregular verbs to look at, but in た-form you get THREE. You’re so lucky today.

きます (to come) → くる → きた

します (to do) → する → した

いきます (to go) → いく → いった

The first two are always around when it comes to talking about irregular verbs. You’ll just have to remember that くる goes to きた (which is pretty easy, just follows Group 2 rules) and that する goes to した.

The third exception is a pretty big one, though – you’ll run into this one enough that it’ll become seared into your brain in no time. いく does not go to いいた (as you might think from the rules from before). Instead it becomes いった (行った).

Before moving on, jot down these three irregular た-form verbs. Then, do the worksheet to help solidify everything we’ve gone over the last three pages!
