Nouns + たら
“Many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our point of view.” - Obi-Wan Kenobi
Nouns, the last group we’ll look at with たら, mimic な-adjective rules 100%. In fact, な-adjectives and nouns almost always follow the same rules. They’re nice that way.
aがくせい だったら
If he/she’s a student…
aせんせい だったら
If he/she’s a teacher…
aにほんご だったら
If it’s Japanese…
All you have to do here now is add the “then” statement.
aがくせい だったら たくさん べんきょうします
If you’re a student you study a lot
aせんせい だったら なんでも わかります
If you’re a teacher you understand anything
aにほんご だったら かんじ は むずかしい
If it’s Japanese, kanji is difficult
Same stuff as before, but instead of “if” adjectives or verbs, it’s nouns. Hopefully that was pretty simple.
Now’s the time for you to put it all together and practice. The next page will guide you towards being able to do this kind of thing on your own, starting you off simple and getting you someplace a little more complicated (and hopefully feeling decent about たら form so you can use it on your own later on).
