You can do a lot of things with location. You can talk about the location. You can describe the location. You can identify the location… so, let’s do all those things. Let’s look at some simple example sentences that have to do with ここ, そこ, and あそこ to help you get a firmer grasp on the iceberg of knowledge.
aここ は フランス です。
This (here) is France
ここ は ＿＿＿＿ です。
This (here) is _______. (Come up with your own sentences)
aそこ は スペイン です。
That (there) is Spain.
そこ は ＿＿＿＿ です。
That (there) is _______. (Come up with your own sentences)
aあそこ は アイアランド です。
That over there (over there) is Ireland.
あそこ は ＿＿＿＿＿ です。
That over there (over there) is _____. (Come up with your own sentences).
That was identifying a location. Now let’s look at describing a location.
aあそこ は きれい です。
It’s pretty over there.
aここ は さむい です。
It’s cold here.
aそこ は おもしろい です。
It’s interesting there.
How would you describe your current location? Go ahead and figure that out. How would you describe the location of someone else (make it up if you need to). How would you describe a location away from you or anyone else (like, say, out your window?). Figure these things out and try to make the proper sentences for them. Then, move on.
