Where

“He who dares nothing need hope for nothing.” – Unknown

If you can tell someone where something is, then you ought to be able to ask somewhere where something is. The usual ここ, そこ, and あそこ won’t always work for this. That’s why you have to learn the word どこ.

どこ = Where

To start things off simply, you can just ask the question “where is it?”

Where is it?

Maybe someone is telling you about a party. You want to know where it is. So, you could ask the question above, or… you could ask specifically where the party is, too.

Where is the party?

The party is here!

And, of course, if you have no idea where you are (happens to me a lot… bad sense of direction), you can ask “Where am I?”

Where is here? (Where am I?)

This (here) is France.

Really / Is that true?

It’s true.

Let’s try these out a little bit more in depth.
