Liking An Action
“The big secret in life is that there is no big secret. Whatever your goal, you can get there if you’re willing to work.” – Oprah
Let’s take a look at some old grammar: 好き and きらい (to like and to hate). There’s no better (and no more useful) grammar to practice the nominalizer の with. So, what actions do you like? What actions do you not like?
a えいが を 見る の は 大好き だ。
I love (the action of) watching a movie.
a ハイキング する の は 大好き だ。
I love (the action of) hiking.
a ヴァンパイア の えいが を 見る の は 大きらい だ。
I hate (the action of) watching vampire movies.
a りょうりする の は すき です。
I like (the action of) cooking.
And so on and so forth. Those are some of the things I like and don’t like. What about you?
Can you come up with 5 things you like doing and don’t like doing? Type them out, but don’t submit them anywhere yet. We’re going to go over one more thing first.
By finishing this page, you’ve used 好き and きらい with your nominalizer の. Although technically you probably already knew how to do this, practicing with specific grammar can sometimes be useful, especially when the grammar is useful as well! Plus, it’ll help you to understand the next page.
