“What year did Jesus think it was?” – George Carlin
Let’s get to using some of those concepts from the last page. Like I said, you’ll be able to practice these as we go through the various “time chapters” as well, so don’t fret if you’re not at 100% by the end of this page. There are a couple exercises that I want you to complete before moving on:
Exercise 1
Attempt to recall (without looking) how to do the following year-related words. Come up with examples in your head:
- nth year
- Specific year
- Last year
- Number of years
- This year
- Next year
If you miss one, you can go back to the previous page and look up the answer, but try to focus on how it works rather than memorizing it straight up.
Exercise 2
In Lang-8, write a journal entry that uses some of these year-time concepts. For example, you could write about:
- Something you’re doing this year, last year, or next year.
- How many years you’ve done a certain hobby, sport, or thing.
- Talk about a particular year you like (1999 anyone? Aw yeahhh).
Of course, you could write about all of these things (even better!) over the next few days. The more you write the more you’ll learn and the more you’ll understand. Perhaps you’ll look back on this day one year from now and notice how good you’ve gotten at Japanese?
Let’s move on to months now. There will be some new stuff as well as some overlap from this chapter, but that’s half the point. These chapters are related and will help to support the bigger picture of time!
