    Hi, i’m having problems understanding the difference between に and で in certain situations (i understand where to use them most of the time). Here is an example of what i mean:

    かいぎ の まえ に しょくじ を します
    かいぎ の あと で くるま で うち に かえります

    What is the difference between the use of the first で and the first に in these two sentences?

    So far as I can tell, で is always used with あと, and に is always used with まえ. I couldn’t really say why, though.

    Hmm, I always thought まえに and あとで are single complete words, not word and a particle separately.

    まえ = 前 = before, in front of
    あと = 後 = after (it can also mean “behind”, but it’s written as 後ろ and read as うしろ in that case)
