    Anyone else experience this?

I was studying along nicely until around Season 6, and it seems everything is rather messed up.

The kanji no longer have descriptions and audio
many of the radicals no longer exist (where is the Ikea one)
Some kanji have radicals from Chapter 9 (so don’t have them yet)
The style of the anki decks suddenly changes (Asking different questions, not a big problem, but annoying).
A total lack of any practice

I was really happy with TF up until this point, enjoyed the humour and layout, but now all this mess is actually working against me (especially as we get more Kanji, where the differences in descriptions/radicals really starts to make it more confusing than it is.

Don’t get me wrong, I love TF, but I am starting to wonder if I should study any more until this is fixed. The last update was from January, so it has certainly been a while…

Hi Nicholas – The earlier seasons have been revised way more than the newer ones so the new ones do have issues. I was bummed about the lack of practice as well.

I would recommend either finishing TextFugu or finding another resource to study. Don’t wait around for updates as they are few and far between. :)  If you wait for updates, you’ll be wishing you hadn’t because you could have progressed in the time you wait.

    Good luck!

I’m guessing it’s a result of him changing the layout time and time again, missing little details each time, until it’s a big mess of stuff that doesn’t fit together. The earlier chapters are probably more consistent because he seems to spend a lot more time on them.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, it is just such a shame as up until now I thought this was the BEST resource, but now I feel I am missing out on a LOT of stuff. Will just be a pain to switch to a different learning “system”, but I guess it must be done.

I try to report every mistake I see, but far too many now so given up.

This has me a little worried since I’m only about halfway through Season 4. Hopefully by the time I delve into Season 6 it would been updated :)

Don’t worry, this is the best resource for a “knows absolutely nothing” beginner.

I recommend you take the next step and go to TaeKim and/or order yourself a copy of Japanese Sentence Patterns for Effective Communication

Since you are on season 6 you can start making your own audio and lists to add to your current list such as the Common Katakana Words list. I have been adding words to this deck like crazy from my Japanese mini dictionary for the last few weeks and I have been making my own audio for them which has helped to increase my vocabulary a bit. I have also created my own dates and months list as I know the kanji used for them.

Its really disappointing how quickly the lessons deteriorate. The sentence anki decks stop at chapter 4, and things stop lining up as well. Seems like its all still in beta, which is a problem at $20 a month

@Sakij7: I’d say it’s closer to “alpha”, since he’s not actually even close to finishing. Definitely not worth $120 as it is, but god knows what he’s going to charge once it’s done. You should let him how disappointing it is – if everyone did, he’d be more likely to actually get things sorted. I don’t think anyone does though…

I think the main issue is that he has spread himself thin with all the different sites. I love textfugu, just wish it was finished, or at least a lot cheaper until it is.

This was an extremely good resource for self-study but it really falls apart around season 6 for me…..maybe even season 5. It needs a lot of work……a lot!!!!
