    Hey everyone!

My name is Kyle and I’m from the US, near Philadelphia. I’m learning Japanese because I would like to teach English in Japan. I taught English in South Korea for two years which was an interesting experience. Over the course of those two years I travelled to Japan four times because I liked it so much haha.

I’ve been considering applying to the JET Program but I have mixed feelings about that. I have applied to a couple other TEFL jobs in Japan but found that they generally expect a higher proficiency in Japanese so I figured I should start getting better! If anyone else is considering teaching English in Japan I’d be happy to chat with you and bounce ideas off each other.

In any case, I’m looking forward to improving my proficiency in Japanese. It’s nice to meet you all and good luck to everyone with your studies!

    Hello and welcome!

What level of Japanese proficiency are you aiming for?

Thanks! My end goal is to get at the very least semi-fluent but it’ll be easier to get to that level once I can find a decent job in Japan (hopefully). For now I’m planning to learn as much as possible before I start sending out applications again. As I learned in Korea, the more Japanese I know before I go to Japan the easier the transition process and the first few months will be. Not to mention, being able to answer basic questions during an interview will help immensely.

Best of luck to you in your studies! According to your other post you said you are Greek. If so, your English is fantastic! I have great respect for you for trying another language on top of that.
