    Hi,

I am a 25 years old french dude living in Shenzhen (China). I had the opportunity to live in Japan at Tenri University when I was 15 to study Judo, it was an amazing experience and it made me want to learn Japanese.

At that time, I could not speak Japanese at all and I still can’t :p. The Japanese students and I could not speak English very well but they were kind enough to show me around. I remember that we mostly communicated using 1 word which sounded like “おす”. We used it for everything and we actually managed to understand each other.

    For example:

    • “Are you hurt”: おすおす?
    • “I am ready”: おす!
    • “Hi”: おす!
    • “Bye”: おすおす。

I have been living in mainland China and learned mandarin Chinese since 2009 so I am not afraid of learning the Kanji (even though I am used to their simplified form).

Glad to meet you all :)

Welcome! I’ve been to Shenzhen, once. My high school’s sister school is Shenzhen Experimental School. =)

Fun fact: the words どうも, どうぞ and すみません will get you through almost every social situation known to man. =)

Thank you, for the tips. I will add that to my vocabulary ;).

Shenzhen is a great city to live in but I prefer cities like Shanghai. If you have the opportunity you should go. It’s very international.

Oh, we went to Shanghai as well. Beijing, too. Plus Hong Kong, Guilin, Yangshuo and… Hangzhou? I never can remember the last one. It was a fair while ago. =P

Oh, you went to a lot of place :). Yes, you are right it is indeed Hangzhou.

I love Hangzhou, it’s the capital of the Zhejiang province. The city is absolutely beautiful :). You should go and visit again because Chinese cities change so fast.
