    Hello hello,

I am actually currently procrastinating from doing my real work, and I just got this shiny new membership that I wanted to show off. I see you all have shiny memberships too.

I am a Canadian artist living in California, and a couple weeks ago when I was being frustrated with my work, I ran across textfugu. I don’t even know how, honestly. Anyway, I used learning hiragana as a relaxing alternative to beating my head against the wall (my work). I’d been kinda sorta thinking about learning Japanese for a while now, and Textfugu solidified my intent and made things relatively easy and entertaining to boot.

    Thanks for having me!

Hi Tulo! Welcome! What made you choose Japanese over French or Swahili?

Welcome and good luck with your studies!

I realized an hour after I posted that I hadn’t mentioned that >_> Well, growing up in Canada, I actually took 3 years of late French Immersion (though it’s mostly gone now, I can still struggle through reading it).

For Japanese though, I have been a longtime fan of the art site Pixiv, and for an equally lengthy time, I have been frustrated by my inability to actually read the user submitted tutorials. Anime and manga were what originally got me into making art 15ish years ago, so having this great resource that I was illiterate on/to/with was frustrating to me. I’ve had a mild interest in learning Japanese for years (thanks to said anime/manga interest), but looking at it from a “professional development” viewpoint made it worth the trouble.
