Hi my name is Miguel and I like video games and programming. I live in the US and although Spanish is my native language, I’m way better at English. I’m currently in high school as a freshman and I’ve always been interested in Japan in some way or another. I like anime and I’m thinking of going to Japan to work at game company like Nintendo. When I get to college I’m definitely going to major in Computer Science but afterwards I’m not sure if I’m going to continue with the hardware or software side of the business.

I did think of taking Japanese at my high school but since it was an after-school class and wouldn’t count towards my graduation (since I’m already taking Spanish) I decided that TextFugu was my best route so that I wouldn’t be overloaded with homework.

Your native language is Spanish but you’re taking it in HS? Daaamn! Find a community or local college that has Japanese– as long as you do more than one semester it’ll almost definitely give you elective credit towards a CompSci degree. If you’re persuasive you could even get out of HS Spanish so it would count towards HS and college. MMMmmmm :) Anyway, welcome!

Yea, since I started learning English when I was five, I basically forgot most of my Spanish. I decided to take Spanish because I felt quite annoyed when I tried to speak to my relatives (and also easy language credit).

My school already offers classes that count towards my CompSci degree, in fact I’m taking AP Computer Science right now. And I’m not that persuasive, it took me quite a while before they let me get into AP CompSci.

    Edit: Thanks Hashi

Miguel – welcome! I’m glad you’ve decided to study Japanese on your own. Great choice! ;)

    Good luck with your studies!
