Hello everyone or anyone who wants to read this short intro.  Just thought I would introduce myself, my name is Mary and I have been studying Japanese history, philosophies, and culture for about 5 years. Learning this beautiful language is way overdue. I learn backwards, it is my process, and this makes for learning a new language difficult. This is the main reason for investing in Textfugu plus it is geared toward the self-learner. Ironically I come from the land of Kansas and now live within driving distance of the Emerald City (Wizard of Oz joke).  I am still feeling my way around the site but looking forward to learning Japanese.

Hi Mary! I’m also in the beautiful state of Washington. :) Welcome to the forums and good luck with your studies! What made you interested in Japan specifically?

    Hello Cassandra,

I took an Asian Philosophy class at Washington State, and thus my interest was born. I have taken all the courses they offer for their Asian studies program and I want more. I got interested in learning the language after watching lots of Japanese movies with subtitles and noticing some things were lost in translation. I admit this is going to be very difficult for me because I have a visual learning disability. But if I can conquer this language I can conquer anything! Thanks for replying to my intro.

Mary, I have no doubt you’ll succeed. :) An Asian Philosophy class sounds really interesting. It’s too bad you’ve run out of courses!

If you have any questions, please post in the forums. Someone is bound to chime in. lol
