Bonjour, my names James I’m a recent college grad working for a video game development company and I’m very fascinated with the Japanese language. So far TextFugu’s been the main contributor to my learning of Hiragana with the help of a few Android flash card apps. After I completed the first season right around October my learning hit a standstill and I’ve been progressing very slowly with my Kanji and Katakana learning. Today I finally found the motivation to jump back on the horse and finally get a membership with TextFugu! I’ve been fascinated with the Japanese culture for years, and it all started out with vlogs from the YouTuber Gimmeaflakeman/Gimmeabreakman. Oh and lets not forget the manga and anime – those are entry drugs I’m sure many of us are familiar with. I’m not sure where learning and eventually (hopefully) becoming fluent in this fantastic language is going to take me but for the time being I’m just an eager learner!

So I have a question for those of you who know their Hirigana, how long did it take you? I heard some others say they learned and mastered Hiragana within hours. Personally it took my a little over a month with daily 1-2 hour long flash card practicing, but I’m a very slow learner so I think I’m an exception.  :P

James, welcome and good luck with your studies! It’s been too long since I memorized kana so I’m not sure how long it took… Too long, if I remember correctly, but I’ve learned a lot about how to best use SRS since then. :)
