    Does anyone understand the format of the entries on dictionary.goo.ne.jp? Here are some examples of the trouble I am having:

    First entry:

    The header line of this entry is:

    にら・む【×睨む】

    What is that little × doing in there? Is it there because that kanji isn’t one of the official ones?

    Then the first line of the entry itself is this:

    ［動マ五（四）］

    I’m guessing that is something about the grammatical type of the word, but I can’t look up what it means.

    Then come the actual definitions. Here is the first one.

    １ 目をいからしてじっと見る。鋭い目つきで見る。「じろりと―・む」

    What is the part in brackets at the end?

    Second entry:

    The header says:

    みる【見る／▽視る／▽観る】

    What are those triangles?

    And then there is:

    ［動マ上一］［文］［マ上一］

    What is that?

    Basically, × shows that the kanji is not a standard use Jyouyou kanji. ▽ shows that the reading is not in the list of Jyouyou kanji.

    １ 目をいからしてじっと見る。鋭い目つきで見る。「じろりと―・む」

    This is a usage example: じろりと睨む. The ― shows where to use the kanji.

    動 means ‘verb’ (動詞)
    マ means the verb is from the ma,mi,mu,me,mo list
    五 means it is a ‘Godan’ verb (grammatical expression)
    （四） means it is ‘Yodan’ verb in old Japanese.

    Still checking about 動マ上一…

    Apparently 上一段 下一段 上二段 下二段 are other conjugations used in classical Japanese. Durf posted some more stuff in the Google Plus thread. Hope that helps!

    Thanks for working on this. After failing to understand the entries themselves, I lost a bit of confidence and didn’t even try looking for the Japanese help text.
