Hey guys; my name is Joshua and I want to learn Japanese for a few reasons: to understand Japanese books, games and anime; knowing the kanji will be helpful in future with my girlfriend who is Taiwanese, and also I’m doing a TESOL english teaching course at the same time, so I think it’d be helpful if I ever try to teach English to have some experience of what it’s like to learn a language (and maybe help me get a placing in Japan if the opportunity comes up!)

I’ll quite probably be coming to visit NZ for a week in December. Actually, there’s a non-zero chance that we’ll be passing through (or at least near) Hamilton. =P
Anyway, welcome, Joshua. I’ll try not to hold your kiwiness against you. =) Take some care, because there’s quite a few Japanese kanji that aren’t the same as their Chinese equivalents, and a fair few Chinese characters that have no Japanese equivalent.
