Hi everyone! I just wanted to drop in and say hello. Like many others, I’m very excited to be here. I’m naturally shy and so my reasons for learning Japanese has many layers but I look forward to getting to know the community and practicing my social and communication skills as well. I’ve been studying Japanese off and on for a few years using mostly Pimsleur on drive to college and/or work. In the past, I’ve learned hiragana and katakana through repetition and I have simply burned myself out, especially trying to practice while finishing a semester full of classes. It’s cliche but I have many new years resolutions and this is one of them; to actually invest the time, money, and energy into learning a second language. Thank you all so very much!

    こんにちは Robert!

I too have learned some Japanese in the past (just Hiragana for me) and burned out, thus losing interest, so I certainly understand where you’re coming from.

Good luck to you with your studies! You can definitely accomplish your Japanese goals with this awesome site/community and some determination! Be sure to update with progress/frustrations and such! :D

    Hey, Robert!

The important thing is that you keep coming back to try again. Just like people quitting smoking (and drinking), they same process really applies to picking UP a habit :D Just ask me, I’ve only had a lifetime membership for…three or four years, now, and I just recently got to Season 2!

And now I’m sick and my throat is swollen, so I have to stop because shadowing is hard :(

Anyway, I’ve found coming to the forums often and keeping in touch with everyone is helping to remind me to study. Maybe that might help?

Good luck, also! I’m pulling for you!

This place is a wasteland :(
