    Hi everyone!
I was just wondering if there’s a term in Japanese that refers to casual, unstructured, or improvised collaborative music making, like the word “jam” in English.

    Thanks!

I was thinking Japanese probably adopted that word for their own purposes, in my favourite Japanese alphabet Katakana of course :-) it would be something like ジャム

And lo and behold a visit to jisho.org resulted in this:

ジャムる – Godan verb with ru ending
    1. to jam Colloquialism

You can also say ジャムセッション or just セッション.

But yeah, I love the Japanese tendency to adopt English words for their own purposes. My favourite is オバむ (being, of course, the verb form of オバマ), which means “to chant ‘yes we can, yes we can’ “. Supposedly. =P
