I have been studying through chapter 2 when suddenly the Kanji sections now have additional directions (specifically: “Add the 04-01 tag to your kanji and kanji vocab decks. Study them.”)

I certainly understand the spirit of the thing. I always thought it was odd to not have an Anki list to study until you reach the end of the kanji section, but those directions don’t link to anything that tells me what the hell to do.

Trying to fumble around an figure it out has made me realize that perhaps I’ve been using Anki incorrectly all along. I have something like 18 decks I go through. I just open up the files I download from textfugu and go.

    My question is two-fold:
    1) how do I “Add the 04-01 tag to your kanji and kanji vocab decks. Study them.”
    2) am I importing decks incorrectly (and if so, can I fix it with out messing up my progress.)

hehe, sorry about that. I’m converting things over to the new lists right now, and you’re getting caught in the middle.

Try the download on this page:
    http://www.textfugu.com/kanji/1-2-stroke/

Or, you could just keep studying normally, though tags won’t be in there for the 4-stroke list you might have…

I’m not so sure about Q1 there, but for Q2 if you want to you can add decks together. I usually add all my kanji or vocab decks together as i get them so that there’s a mix of kanji with different numbers of strokes.

To do that (assuming you’re using anki on a computer), open one of the decks then go to File->Import and select the deck you wish to add. Then hit “Import” again.

I don’t think the info on how well you know the cards is copied over though, they will just start as new cards in the deck.

Koichi and CJ thanks for your responses.

My first assumption was that the problem was that I’m not very familiar with the inner workings of Anki as I find the deck menu to be one of the few tricky things about Anki.

I think the tags feature sounds great. I’m looking forward to it.

So far, I’m having pretty good luck with the Kanji program. Just the other day I saw 川下[other kanji][other kanji], and I said, “Well shit, I know the readings for half that sign.” I thought for sure that one was in danger of going in the Anki bin of exiled cards but now I can’t forget it.

Hmm… I just tried the link for The Kanji Deck on http://www.textfugu.com/kanji/1-2-stroke/ and it is linking to an empty filename atm, just ‘.zip’.

However, the links down the right side of the Kanji topic list are working fine.

^^ I’m at the point too and it looks like the Kanji Vocab (on 2-stroke) link is broken as well.
