About Me:
My name is Shelley. I’m 22 and studying Psychology/Sociology.

How I got into the culture:
When I met my boyfriend,Brad,he was well into the culture. He’s been to Japan three times and was in a club all throughout High School. He is using TextFugu to re-learn/touch up on his Japanese. Brad introduced me to Manga (Vampire Knight and Black Bird) and of course….I fell in love. He then told me that he does cosplay in his free time; which he had to explain what he meant by that. I immediately got really excited to dress up as a character. I did end up making my first costume which was Eruka Frog from Soul Eater.I still get excited when there is a new volume released for Black Bird. He can’t get my attention until I have finished it.

We cook Japanese food about three times a week. We watch the youtube videos “Cooking with Dog.” If you haven’t seen this, I highly advise you check them out. We are in a slow process of working on a Totoro costume. Along with making the costumes of Noel and Serah from FFXIII-2.We are planning a trip to Japan the middle of Feb. of 2013. I’m going to Kitty Land….there’s no doubt about that. We are hoping to visit Cat Island too. :)

What I hope to achieve:
I have a professor at my University who is Japanese and I would love very much to carry out a conversation with her. I plan on seeking her help in learning the language.
As I mentioned above, we are going to Japan and learning the language would be very helpful.
Brad and I have talked about moving to Japan one day in the future. I’m going to school to be a couples/family counselor and knowing the language would be a tremendous thing.
I think it’d be nice to not have subtitles on while watching anime and actually understand what is being said.

Aside from Brad and TextFugu helping me learn Japanese it would be nice to have others if anyone would like to Skype or GoogleChat.
