    In the section on masculine sentence enders This sentence pops up すし を たべたかなぁ

    I thought small Kana were used in Katakana for foreign sounds but I can’t find a good explanation for small ぁ、ぃ、ぅ、ぇ、ぉ

    It’s basically used to indicate an extended vowel that also trails off.

    So なぁ sounds a bit more wistful than なあ or な, へぇ sounds more quizzical than へえ, and so forth.
