I’m not gonna make a push for/against SOPA here, but I assume that a lot of people don’t know that Rosetta Stone supports SOPA and if it’s a thing you’re interested in, then you may want to know about it. As far as I can see, it’s the only language education company.

I’d be surprised if anybody is using that software, it just trains you to be a parrot!

I’m not surprised to see Rosetta Stone Inc. supporting SOPA one bit. AFAIK they are one of the most pirated software out there, I suspect right behind Windows itself. Mind you mine was a legitimate copy (hand me down and I almost upgraded to V4 because of the iPhone app) but many of the review comments were ‘just torrent it’. If I remember right even the Tofugu Alternatives to Rosetta Stone Japanese YouTube video has a ‘torrent it’ top comment.

SOPA… DMCA… This all makes me think of Elmer Fudd chasing Bugs Bunny… The scene groups seem to be moving to Russian, Canadian, or the like, servers and advising their American friends to move their DNS provider. Security techs are starting to really push people to use encrypted VPN tunnels for all their internet traffic. You can’t stop it but you sure can make people smarter (both the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ people) about security and their data. Just look at what happened to Go Daddy.

For or against doesn’t really matter to me, I’m outside its jurisdiction.

That is from where I found out about it, and I am 100% against it…
    Seriously WTF America??…

To be honest, I would have bought it to try it out when I was just starting out if they charged a reasonable price, but at this point it’s like Adobe software or 3ds max etc, needlessly incredibly expensive. I LIKE to buy my stuff, but with products like that, they aren’t giving people much of a chance. (Hell since I switched to steam, I buy all my games now, because the service and prices are GOOD)

Rosetta Stone is alright for those who just want a course plan to tie them down to the subject. I got it a looong time ago, stopped using it when it became to easy and it was just an annoyance to run the software (which is terrible, at least on version 3). I still remember the lessons I did though, or some reason those voices just stick in your head…

But yeah, re: SOPA… awful. Really. http://www.reddit.com/r/SOPA/

Agree with Sheepy. That’s why all these big programs are pirated so often, because they’re unreasonably expensive. The high prices increase the piracy, which means the prices need to increase to make a profit, which leads to more piracy, and so on.
