Hello all! I’m Moriah. I joined Textfugu a few years ago when I was living in Japan as an ALT, but fell away from it. I’ve since left Japan, gotten my MA in TESOL, taught ESL/EFL in the USA, Bulgaria, and currently Indonesia. But my heart remains attached to Japan. I’ll be visiting Japan for the first time since I left in 2012 this summer and I am excited to reconnect. So, to complete the task, why am I learning Japanese?

    1. To refresh and improve upon what I learned in my three years there before returning this summer.
    2. I love Heian Era literature and have read many translations, but would love to one day, read a little bit in its original form.
    3. I’d like to read “Kitchen” by Banana Yoshimoto in its original form.
    4. I hope to some day return to teach EFL at the university level in Japan.
    5. I’m still close with friends in Japan and want to improve my friendships there.
    6. I want to read the original Sailor Moon manga in Japanese.
    7. I want to enjoy the Sailor Moon anime without dubbing or subtitles.
    8. I hope to be able to sing along to more BUCK-TICK!

Look forward to learning more! よろしくお願いします!

    Welcome back! =)

You just going for a holiday? Where were you planning to visit?

I was last in Japan in 2010. Currently in the earliest stages of planning a group trip that’s tentatively going to be in February 2018…

Thank Joel! Yeah, just for a visit as I make my way back to the USA from Indonesia (where I’m currently working). Group trip sounds awesome!

Congratulations on returning to your Japanese studies! I would also like to teach English abroad, so I think it is so amazing that you’ve taught in so many great places! I hope that you have a really great time when you return to Japan. Good luck!

Sailor Moon, Buck Tick and Bannana Yoshimoto – you are a person of great taste!

I’m interested in Heian literature but never read any, what would you recommend?
